RS Hydro Launch Steam Flow Measurement Service

Due to increasing energy costs, many companies now have the need to check their energy usage.  Optimising steam production/usage is a guaranteed way to reduce your energy consumption. This is why the need for steam monitoring is such an important one.

The cost of isolating processes and considerable downtime caused by installation of inline systems is usually considered an impractical and expensive steam measurement solution. This factor contributed to manufacturers worldwide being constantly asked the question “Is there a clamp on meter which could do the job of an inline system?”  Until recently the answer to this was always no, until new technology pioneered by Panametrics was introduced to give control back to the process engineer.
RS Hydro have realised this great need for energy measurement and have introduced our new steam flow measurement and survey service.

Steam survey at Mars Foods

RS Hydro was recently contacted by Mars foods over internal usage of steam and boiler efficiency concerns.  The company required a non invasive flow measurement service because the engineers at the plant could not shut down the steam system for inline flow meters to be installed. We were required to monitor the steam flows at three different locations for one week.
Three PT878GCs were used to conduct the survey and recorded flow, mass flow, velocity and totals every 5mins for one week. The installation process was easy and the engineer installed all three meters in a day.

The PT878GCs were removed a week later and the data was downloaded from each of the meters. The data was subsequently sent to Mars engineers for analysis. During the testing, the UK experienced a prolonged spell of abnormally cold weather which helped Mars engineers understand the ability of their steam supply system at higher loads.
RS Hydro can carry out steam surveys out on a temporary or permanent basis.
