Spot Flow Rate Monitoring Across Multiple Pipes
Spot flow rate checking is always useful when it comes to observing process flow-rates within pipe networks, but wouldn’t it be nice if you could monitor multiple pipes all at once?
Panametrics PT900 Dual Channel Clamp-on Ultrasonic Flowmeter
RS Hydro are not new to the game of performing spot flow rate monitoring within pipe-networks, industrial or otherwise. Neither are Panametrics, who pioneered transit-time differential clamp-on ultrasonic technology flowmeters.
For a site with many pipe processes and a variety of different fluids, flow-rates, zones and other caveats relating to process monitoring, determining system specifications and investing in flowmeters is a time-consuming and technical process. Hence why combining flowmeter technology which does not require pipe modifications or process shutdowns, with a battery to make it portable, is such a popular choice for process industries.
Benefits of transit-time ultrasonic flowmeter technology
- High levels of accuracy for trustworthy data: Around 1% of reading for pipes over 50 mm and 2% for pipes under 50 mm.
- Repeatable measurements: Low variance in datasets at ±0.2% of reading.
- Large turn-down ratio: A wide range of flow-rates—slow and fast—can be monitored.
- Detailed flow signal data: Precise signal data and diagnostics help adapt systems to difficult applications (such as fluids containing solids).
- Small system footprint: Customisable cable lengths and a variety of brackets mean the system doesn’t need to take up lots of room.
Real-world use case: Pharmaceutical production facility
One such example of an industry which the PT900 portable clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter benefitted is a production facility within the pharmaceutical industry. Due to the nature of the production processes, any shutdown of processes or issues with processes involving flow are extremely expensive. RS Hydro were approached by a pharmaceutical production facility to provide a portable spot flow rate instrument, allowing site technicians to monitor multiple flow processes with one instrument.
Dual-channel capability: two measurements, one instrument
The PT900 is not only battery powered and fully portable, it can also act as two flowmeters at the same time. The dual-channel capability enables flow-rate data from two pairs of pipe-mounted sensors to be displayed on the PT900 smartphone application using a single PT900 flowmeter system. This means it can simultaneously monitor fluid flow in two separate pipes, or at upstream and downstream locations on a process pipe.
