About the role

This new role as a Product Development Manager will give you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a global impact on the lives of billions of people, protect our fragile ecosystems and to reduce our carbon footprint. As holders of the Queens Award for Innovation, multiple patents and with distribution channels around the world, this is a fantastic opportunity to manage a fast moving and highly innovative division of our business. You will work closely with our internal R&D team and external collaboration partners to develop and delivering truly game-changing technologies. This role requires a hybrid working arrangement, with the majority of work being performed in Bromsgrove, but with flexibility for some remote work.

Primary responsibilities

• Lead and inspire the R&D team to define, design, and bring to market new and innovative products that help our clients accelerate discovery throughout the Water Resources and Environmental Sectors.
• Develop product strategy by understanding the needs of our clients and users, conducting market research and competitive analysis.
• Develop and maintain the product/technology strategy roadmap, align with stakeholders (e.g. Sales, Technical Support, Engineering, Finance, Marketing), prioritize features, build consensus, and coordinate product schedules with experts across the business. Define resource requirements to execute roadmaps.
• Manage the entire product lifecycle from ideation to production across a range of projects.
• Manage and track budgets across all areas of Product Development.
• Manage and coach Project Team.
• Foster a culture of customer-led, data-driven decision making, and accountability for metrics and results.
• Work closely with Proteus’s Senior Leadership Team to shape business and product strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5+ years of product management experience in an instrumentation environment with a proven and successful track record with focus on front end engineering design and optical design.
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with experience in product management and development.
• Evidence of leadership and project management responsibility for product design, development and overall management from inception to production.
• Customer-facing experience to gather customer requirements or market research and translate into solutions.
• 5+ years of Electronics, mechatronics and/or instrumentation experience; ideally in water/wastewater/environmental sectors but would consider experience from other industries such as pharmaceutical, healthcare, power, automotive, defence or consumer electronics.
• Evidence of people leadership (direct or indirect).
• Experience of Project Management of Manufacturing Scientific Instrumentation.
