Overview

The Solinst Model 103 Tag Line uses a weight attached to a laser marked cable, which is mounted on a sturdy free-standing reel. It is principally designed for use during the installation of monitoring wells. The Solinst 103 Tag Line also provides a suitable method of measuring the depth to the bottom of a well, or the depth to the top of a backfill sand or bentonite layer.

The 1.6mm (1/16”) stranded stainless steel wire line is coated with durable polyethylene and has minimum break strength of 122 kg (270 lbs). The Tag Line comes in standard lengths of 30m to 300m (100 ft to 1000 ft,) with other lengths available on request.

The Solinst Tag Line weights can be clipped on/off the cable. This therefore allows the user to use the tag line as a support line for bailer, pump and packer deployment.

As an optional extra RS Hydro offer the Solinst PVDF laser marked tape which can be used with the 103 Tag Line, PVDF tape is non stretch and high in tensile strength and electrical efficiency. Durability can be relied upon with each tape conductor consisting of 13 strands of stainless steel and 6 strands of copper coated steel. Adherence to wet surfaces is ensured because of the clever thick dog bone design, an added feature to this design is that the tape hangs straight on application and prevents the tape from clinging to the sides of the well.

There is a choice of tapes PVDF tapes to choose from, the 3/8" (10mm) tapes have permanent laser markings every 1/100ft. or each millimeter. LM2 tape features feet and tenths with markings every 1/100ft. and the LM3 tapes features meters and centimeters with markings every mm.

FAQ's

A device that collects water samples at a specified depth without need for purging beforehand. Samples taken reflect only the specific water chemistry at the time and location where the sample was taken. It can also be referred to as an individual or catch sample. This type of sampling is recommended when standard purge sampling is impractical or not efficient. Groundwater sampling relies on the principle that groundwater is characteristic of the water outside the well at that depth.
The 428 BioBailer and 429 Point Source Bailer require a suspension line for raising and lowering the bailer. It is recommended you use a Solinst 103 tag line- this can be attached to the bracket at the top of the sampler. A sample release device is included with each bailer, and discrete interval sampler, to help with transfer to a sample bottle. The 425 Discrete Interval Sampler includes tubing, of a specified length, that is attached to the sampler for raising, lowering and pressurising the sampler. The tubing is on a reel with fittings to allow the sampler to be pressurised using a high-pressure hand-pump.
Samplers should be slowly and gently lowered through the water column, to create as little mixing as possible, and the sample collected for the desired depth is representative of that depth. And in the case of the 428/429 bailers they should also be gently raised to avoid the check balls being dislodged and the sample contaminated. For all samplers it is recommended a sample release device is used.
